AN exhibition of posters depicting 30 years of economic reform in China is on display between now and Jan. 11, at the Shenzhen Academy of Sculpture.
It is being presented by a group of young Chinese graphic designers in recognition of the 30 years of reform.
The Poster Exhibition of the 30th Anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening is more than just a celebration of China’s economic development. More than 100 posters represent the dynamic social transition that China has experienced over the past three decades. Designers integrated new art directions in their work and generated a great diversity of individual styles.
Among them is a 4-piece collection by Bi Xuefeng, the chairman of Shenzhen Graphic Designers’ Association. Each poster shows a satellite map image of China every decade from 1979. A large green area on the “1979” poster is replaced by the widening urban city zone on “1989,” “1999” and “2009.” The designer sees China’s changes not only through urban development, but also through the deterioration of the nation’s natural resources.
