The second part represents the zenith of Cizhou kilns, featuring items from the eighth to mid-14th centuries. Porcelain craftsmanship at this time features delicate black-and-white patterns.

The third era features items between mid-14th century to 1949, when the influence of Cizhou kilns declined with the rise of Jingdezhen and imported porcelain.

The last section, and the highlight of the show, displays porcelain pillows. They were widely used by the Chinese in the Song and Yuang dynasties to relieve the summer heat. Cizhou produced more and better pillows than any other kilns in China, Ma said.

In addition to the usual flower, poultry and animal designs, patterns on the pillows are also rich with folk flavor and scenes of everyday life. Some are adorned with two types of Chinese verse popular during the Song and Yuan dynasties.

None of the exhibit is in English so try to visit with a bilingual friend.
