MORE than 50 artists with the Shenzhen Free Art House (SFAH) are staging a joint exhibition at F518 Idea Land in Bao’an District through April 15.
Titled “Radiography and Shenzhen Contemporary Art,” the exhibition is a showcase of more than 100 works, covering performance, music, painting, sculpture, installation and photography.
This is the first collective show the group of young and experimental freelance artists based at Idea Land has made this year.
When the exhibition opened March 5, Du Yinghong, chief organizer of the SFAH, sang an impromptu Chinese song, accompanied by three drummers. Du called his impromptu performance “Harmonious Society Is Good,” part of the joint exhibition.
At the opening ceremony, Shenzhen-based art critic Wu Wei was busy signing his newly published book, a critical look at traditional Chinese medicine. Wu called his work “New Book Signing,” also part of the joint exhibition.
“Radiography is a medical term, which means the process of using radiation to treat some illnesses, such as cancer,” Wu said. “We decided to use the medical term as the theme of this joint exhibition because we believe contemporary Chinese art is the specific radiography of the social and cultural issues in China today.”
