
The exhibition also features the artist’s famous “Ming Tombs” series. The Ming tombs lie to the northwest of Beijing, in Changping District near the Tianshou Mountains. Thirteen of the 16 Ming emperors were buried there between 1409 and 1644. In 2002, the Beijing Municipal Government announced a plan to renovate the tombs and develop the site into an international tourist attraction. Zeng took the opportunity to photograph the area before the renovation.
