ALTHOUGH two weeks have passed since the fourth Innovative December began Dec. 5 and the curtain has lowered on some events, there are still plenty of colorful exhibitions, seminars and competitions coming up.

With the theme My Ideas, My Dreams, this year’s Innovative December fosters exchange between Shenzhen and Hong Kong designers, showcases the best contemporary art work and encourages the general public to come up with their own small innovations. Professionals from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and London are participating in the 2008 Living in Harmony home design contest and also gathering at seminars to discuss the new trends in industrial design.

Art lovers shouldn’t miss the Shenzhen International Ink Painting Biennial. Works from more than 90 artists from home and abroad are now on display at the 6th Shenzhen International Ink Painting Biennial, an influential event among art circles in China.

Aficionados of contemporary art should keep an eye on OCT-LOFT and the 518 Art Zone in Bao’an District. Hubs for avant-garde artists and independent galleries in Shenzhen, these two venues will stage contemporary art exhibitions as well as experimental music concerts in the coming weeks.

The gift design contest, DV competition and children’s pottery club encourage participation by every citizen. Walking in shopping malls and entering libraries, people will find themselves surrounded by paintings and other works from local artists.

Those with their own creations can bring them to the innovation flea market at OCT, harvesting the joy of recognition and possibly a little bit of cash.

Enjoy the fun and inspiration of Innovative December hosted by this young UNESCO City of Design.
